Residents in North West Leicestershire are very satisfied with their waste collection services, and there is a changing attitude to litter in the district, a survey has revealed.

More than 1,000 people responded to North West Leicestershire District Council’s (NWLDC) waste satisfaction survey, with 93 per cent saying they are content with the refuse service they receive.

It also showed that people in the district are taking a stronger stance on litter, with 98 per cent saying they would pick up litter found outside their house. Meanwhile 74 per cent said they’d pick up rubbish littering their street, which is a 13 per cent rise compared to the last survey in 2014.

There were also significant increases in the number of residents that have a good knowledge of what they can and can’t recycle, and in those that believe it is important to promote environmental awareness in schools.

The council carried out the survey to learn more about the attitudes of residents towards waste and recycling so that they data can be used to improve services.

Councillor Alison Smith MBE, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for NWLDC, said: “It’s really good to celebrate what we’ve done well and to see our satisfaction rates remain consistently high. More than 46 per cent of the waste collected is recycled and at least nine out of 10 residents are happy with the council’s waste collection service.

“Of course it’s also important to use the results of the survey to identify areas where we can improve our service and strive to get even higher satisfaction next time around.

“The residents of this district are a credit to themselves, and it’s great to hear how many take pride in keeping the streets tidy and increasing the amount we recycle.”
